As musicians we know how athletic the mastery of an instrument can be. We are passionate artists, but oftentimes struggle with repetitive stress, performance anxiety, and a general mindset of ‘overdoing’. Poses for the Practice Room nurtures yet strengthens your body and mind with a special focus on alignment and healthy sequencing for the spine and nervous system. Through a study of our inner resonance and breath, we begin to undo some habits that bind us. We can create a balanced approach in the practice room, ultimately leading toward more joy and freedom of expression in our music making.
Yoga for Musicians
“Our body is our first instrument, and as we learn to play it we discover our maximum resonance and harmony”
— yehudi menuhin, violinist & yogi
Seetha Shivaswamy, MM/RYT-500 is a professional flautist and registered yoga teacher. She intertwines her extensive knowledge of the body and breath relative to playing a musical instrument into a specially curated set of yoga sequences. Seeking equanimity, balance, and strength, these sequences continue to dynamically evolve into what she calls Poses for the Practice Room.
